1899
August Horch founded Horch & Cie, his first automobile company, in Cologne, Germany.
1909
Horch started a new automobile company called Zwickau, which had previously been operating under the name Audiwerke AG, Zwickau. The translation of Horch in Latin is Audi, which means 'to listen’ thus marking the birth of the company’s name.
1945
Following World War II, Auto Union AG's premises were located in the same zone that was occupied by Soviet forces, who then confiscated assets, dismantled the manufacturing plant, and removed the company from the Commercial Register of the city of Chemnitz, Germany.
1971
The slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik”(“ Advancement through Technology”) was created and would soon become the key message underlining the future and overall vision of the company.
How Did Audi Get Their Logo?
The Audi emblem was created after a merger of four of Germany’s oldest automobile manufacturers (Audi, DKW, Horch, Wanderer), the foundation upon which Audi was founded. The 1932 Auto Union merger resulted in the creation of the Audi logo of four interlocking rings.
