Timing belts are designed to last, which is why they haven’t always been include in factory scheduled maintenance. However, when your timing belt brakes or wears out, it can lead to costly damage to your pistons and engine. Unlike many of your repair needs, there usually aren’t any signs that your timing belt needs to be replaced. It might squeal a bit before it breaks but that’s about it. Our goal is to perform a timing belt replacement before your belt breaks, typically somewhere between 60K and 80K miles. At the very least, you must have it inspected at 60K miles. If you have recently purchased a used vehicle and aren’t sure if the timing belt has been replaced, stop in for a quick inspection. We will also replace the water pump, tensioners, and pulleys. We may leave the water pump if it is not powered by your timing belt, but most are. We are a family owned and operated shop whose ASE Certified technicians deliver quality work at fair and honest prices. All of our work is backed by a 36 months/36,000 miles nationwide warranty.
How Does My Timing Belt Work
Your timing belt has the important job of opening and closing your engine valves and controls (the camshaft and crankshaft) at precisely the right time. This is essential for producing the internal combustion required to produce power. This is why your car won’t start if your timing belt breaks. If your belt is still intact but is old or compromised, it may stretch out and throw the timing off. While combustion may still occur, the delayed timing may damage your pistons. This is why it’s important to replace your belts, water pump and connectors before they wear or fail.
