Oil Change in Arlington, Virginia
Oil and Oil Filter Changes for All Makes and Models
An oil change is one of the most important services we provide here at Auto Stop in Arlington, Virginia. Whether you own a car, truck, or SUV, your car stands to reap several benefits from regularly changing your oil. One of the top is a better running engine. A well-lubricated engine is far less likely to overheat or break down, as the oil prevents friction between parts and helps to absorb any excess heat generated. Fresh oil also flushes out harmful materials and contaminants, minimizing corrosion and maximizing performance. Another perk? Better gas mileage. Old, dirty oil inhibits an engine’s performance and hurts gas mileage. Regular oil changes can improve your car’s gas mileage by 1% – 2% over time! When it comes to your vehicle’s routine oil change, make your next appointment at our auto shop, where we’re open Monday through Friday. We carry a range of oil types and grades, replace oil filters with every oil change, and offer free shuttle service and online appointment setting—among many other conveniences.
What Type of Oil Does My Car Need?
If you’ve ever looked into motor oil, you’ve likely come across a variety of options in terms of types and grades. Each type and grade has a purpose, and selecting the right kind for your vehicle is of the utmost importance. Motor oil has four main types: conventional, synthetic, synthetic blend, and high mileage. Conventional is the most common, used in light-duty, late-model cars with a low-to-moderate mileage and a simple engine design. Synthetic oil is designed with a higher viscosity level and increased oxidation and thermal breakdown resistance, while synthetic blend offers both conventional and synthetic oil characteristics. High-mileage oil is specially engineered for vehicles with over 75,000 miles on the odometer; it helps reduce fuel consumption and the potential for leaks and oil seepage. In total, there are 11 oil viscosity grades, which measure its resistance to flow. A helpful way to remember viscosity is about the number: the higher the number, the thicker the oil; the lower the number, the thinner the oil.
